A mental health assessment would be completed to evaluate your child's emotional functioning and ability to think, reason, and remember (cognitive functioning). It may be useful in detecting and evaluating mental health disorders (i.e. anxiety, depression) and evaluate the mental status of a child referred for psychological treatment resulting from problems at school, work or home.

A mental health assessment may include information related to history, performance at home, school and community settings, DSM-IV diagnosis, recommendations for further treatment and clinical judgement.  Oftentimes, courts, DHS, schools and foster families find this information useful.  Completing a Mental Health Assessment does not necessarily suggest that a child should continue with further treatment. 

It is my philosophy that the best therapy occurs when the client and clinician feel there is a good connection.  Therefore, I offer an initial 30 minute consultation at no cost to get to know one another, discuss treatment services and decide whether we will continue working together.  If so, we will complete a treatment plan together. 

If I am not the right therapist for you after our consultation, I am happy to facilitate an appropriate referral.

One-on-one therapy may focus on, but is not limited to issues including depression, anxiety, phobias, fears, relationships, trauma, abuse, attachment, empowerment, self-esteem, social skills, foster care issues, grief and loss and parenting.

May include phone support to parents, caregivers or community resources.  I am also available to consult with teachers, Primary Care Physicians, DHS Caseworkers and other important figures in your child's life to promote excellence in all areas.  This may also include facilitating a Plan of Care meeting.
